Where:At the foot of the South Downs between Lewes and Eastbourne. The road to Firle stops at Firle!
Why Visit:A small but pretty English village mentioned in the Domesday Book, Firle has a great pub and historic house and is a good stopping off point for South Downs ramblers.
Places of Interest:In Firle itself we recommend a visit to Charleston Farmhouse, the former country home of the Bloomsbury Set's Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell. Between June and September we also recommend the magnificent country house, Firle Place. Slightly further afield we suggest the Long Man of Wilmington, the mysterious chalk guardian of the South Downs. And for music lovers, Glyndebourne is nearby.
